 May 1st is National College Decision Day. It is the day in which scholars across the country are required to have sent in their college admission notifications.
Here at New Ambitions, it is a day where we honor students' commitment to their college ambitions. Often times, commitment is the most challenging decision to make when there are so many different options to choose from. In life, there are countless paths to take, but the right one is the path that helps propel your ambitions and helps you grow as a human being. To all of our scholars, we will continue to celebrate your growth and you have our support! Continue to reach out to us with remaining questions or concerns.  Rachel Johnson, Founder and President of New Ambitions, recently spoke to a vibrant and ambitious group of scholars who have been selected to join New York University with an esteemed honor.
NYU Scholars' Weekend hosts a series of events for a diverse group of admitted students who are also recipients of one of NYU's most prestigious scholarships (including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. award). The scholars were selected from NYU's applicant pool (over 60,000 applicants this year!) and, in terms of their outstanding academic and personal achievements are the most dynamic, diverse and talented of NYU's admitted students. Rest assured, colleges and universities across the country are competing for this group of scholars to join their educational organization. Ms. Johnson participated in the NYU Scholars' Alumni Panel and reflected on her experiences at NYU as an MLK Scholar, the experiences that the scholars program provided, and the lessons that shaped her professional path. Above all, she advised the prospective scholars on how to maximize their education and how to choose an academic setting that cultivates their ambitions. At New Ambitions, we know that a quality education teaches you that there is always something new to learn and that the journey is just as important as the place of arrival. Stay ambitious!  Students across the nation are completing financial aid applications. Here at New Ambitions, we are working with our students to apply for financial aid with ambition!
Seniors have been briefed on the the importance of the FAFSA before the 2015 - 2016 application became available. Now that we are in full swing, we are making sure each and every student that we service completes all financial aid applications accurately and on time. College Ambition Counselors review student aid reports and assist students in updating information to reflect 2014 filing records. We're working with parents and advising students through the process. Students are fully aware of the strategies they can use to ensure that they apply on time and send their FAFSA application to their selected schools. College Ambition Counselors help build college-graduate culture in high schools by facilitating the financial aid application process and equipping students with strategies to successfully complete FAFSAs in the years to come!  New Ambitions partners with Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School (BCAM) to implement our College Application Ambition program.
Working closely with Principal O'Brien, Guidance Counselor Ms. Lyons, and the school staff allows us to ensure that all seniors complete their college and financial aid applications. Our College Ambition Advisor is working with seniors individually and in small groups to provide customized support for the graduating class of 2015. So far, 99% of seniors have completed college applications and now are working on their Financial Aid applications. We are proud to partner with schools that align with our goal to help students discover, apply, and achieve their college ambitions!  Happy New Year!
