President of New Ambitions attended the launch of Growing Up NYC, the City’s first comprehensive policy framework for children and young adults. The City aims to coordinate services for young people while also providing clear metrics to measure the risks and well-being of New York City's three million children (Birth - 24 years of age).
New Ambitions programs align directly with the Growing Up NYC Policy Framework through our mission and facilitation of our programs. We harvest the community school spirit, raise ambition in students and their advocates, and centralize college access and success resources for students to discover, apply, and achieve their ambitions. We encourage you to review the policy framework to better understand the direction we are all moving toward in youth development. You may download and review a copy here. At New Ambitions, we believe in ambition for all students and securing their right to choose their journey. Make it ambitious!

The personal statement is a major component of the college application process. It presents our scholars with an opportunity to share something unique and personal about their lives that may not be reflected anywhere else within their application. It's an opportunity to exercise ambition!
Across the nation, high school students partner with guidance counselors, college advisors, English teachers, and other advocates to revise and strengthen their personal statements. Here are New Ambitions, our College Ambition Counselors help students break down the process of writing their first draft into manageable steps. Our Advisors then provide value feedback to help each student bring their stories to life, make them more captivating and intimate, and ensure each student's narrative voice is remembered. New Ambitions' President also aids in reviewing personal statements from students enrolled in schools that we partner with. Ms. Johnson provides immediate and individual feedback to students. "I enjoy assisting students as they strengthen their personal statements. It always produces opportunities to explore their untapped creativity, learn more about students we serve, and create foundations for mentorship." - Rachel Johnson, President of New Ambitions. How are you working to make sure your students personal statements are ambitious? Rachel Johnson, Founder and President of New Ambitions, recently spoke to a vibrant and ambitious group of scholars who have been selected to join New York University with an esteemed honor.
NYU Scholars' Weekend hosts a series of events for a diverse group of admitted students who are also recipients of one of NYU's most prestigious scholarships (including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. award). The scholars were selected from NYU's applicant pool (over 60,000 applicants this year!) and, in terms of their outstanding academic and personal achievements are the most dynamic, diverse and talented of NYU's admitted students. Rest assured, colleges and universities across the country are competing for this group of scholars to join their educational organization. Ms. Johnson participated in the NYU Scholars' Alumni Panel and reflected on her experiences at NYU as an MLK Scholar, the experiences that the scholars program provided, and the lessons that shaped her professional path. Above all, she advised the prospective scholars on how to maximize their education and how to choose an academic setting that cultivates their ambitions. At New Ambitions, we know that a quality education teaches you that there is always something new to learn and that the journey is just as important as the place of arrival. Stay ambitious! |
