This academic year all NYC high schools juniors will take the SAT free of charge during the school day on Aril 5th.
SATs are critical to opening doors for students to diversify their college choices and apply during the college admission journey. Providing an opportunity for all juniors to take the SATs brings us one step closer to ensuring students across NYC can pursue their college ambitions with equal support and resources. More information about the CollegeAccessForAll Initiative that we support and work in tandem with can be found here. Our College Ambition Counselors work with students to understand the significance of college admission exams, test prep and proactivity. We wish all students taking the SAT much success! We look forward to supporting our students through the college admission journey.

We appreciate your support and commitment to helping NYC Youth achieve their college ambitions! May this new year bring you even more joy and positive impact!
President of New Ambitions attended the launch of Growing Up NYC, the City’s first comprehensive policy framework for children and young adults. The City aims to coordinate services for young people while also providing clear metrics to measure the risks and well-being of New York City's three million children (Birth - 24 years of age).
New Ambitions programs align directly with the Growing Up NYC Policy Framework through our mission and facilitation of our programs. We harvest the community school spirit, raise ambition in students and their advocates, and centralize college access and success resources for students to discover, apply, and achieve their ambitions. We encourage you to review the policy framework to better understand the direction we are all moving toward in youth development. You may download and review a copy here. At New Ambitions, we believe in ambition for all students and securing their right to choose their journey. Make it ambitious! We are honored to be selected to be listed as an approved service provider for the College Access for All Initiative (CA4ALL) and look forward to partnering with schools through the appropriate channels to ensure more NYC High School students discover, apply, and achieve their college ambitions!
College Ambition Counselors are encouraged to not only cultivate ambition in students but also harvest the college graduate spirit within the academic communities we service. By celebrating the educators and supporters within the community, students have additional opportunities to make connections to what they're learning and the possibilities already explored. It is the College Ambition Counselor's goal to break the ice and meet the students more than half way with information and reflections as a foundation. For each student we then ask: What will be your story? On behalf of New Ambitions, we want to thank you for your partnership and invaluable commitment to helping NYC students achieve their college ambitions. We wish you a merry holiday season and ambitious new year! The personal statement is a major component of the college application process. It presents our scholars with an opportunity to share something unique and personal about their lives that may not be reflected anywhere else within their application. It's an opportunity to exercise ambition!
Across the nation, high school students partner with guidance counselors, college advisors, English teachers, and other advocates to revise and strengthen their personal statements. Here are New Ambitions, our College Ambition Counselors help students break down the process of writing their first draft into manageable steps. Our Advisors then provide value feedback to help each student bring their stories to life, make them more captivating and intimate, and ensure each student's narrative voice is remembered. New Ambitions' President also aids in reviewing personal statements from students enrolled in schools that we partner with. Ms. Johnson provides immediate and individual feedback to students. "I enjoy assisting students as they strengthen their personal statements. It always produces opportunities to explore their untapped creativity, learn more about students we serve, and create foundations for mentorship." - Rachel Johnson, President of New Ambitions. How are you working to make sure your students personal statements are ambitious? Mentorship is an important pillar within our programming at New Ambitions. Each College Ambition Advisor is equipped with strategies to cultivate relationships with our NYC scholars. It is an element within our programming that we take pride in and encourage throughout the academic year. It's no surprise that Founder and President of New Ambitions, Rachel Johnson, has joined the NYU FOCUS Mentorship program to provide guidance and support to incoming Freshmen pursuing their college ambitions. We are confident that the mentorship will be beneficial for both the mentor and mentee. Congratulations! FOCUS is a structured mentorship program designed to offer first-year undergraduate students who identify as first generation college students and/or students of color (African American/Black, Arab American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic American, Native American/American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Biracial/Multiracial) the opportunity to develop relationships with NYU Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Graduate Students or other professionals who can serve as resources and/or advocates through establishing an ongoing mentoring relationship. The program assists students in creating a foundation on NYU’s campus through; opportunities for leadership development, connecting students to The Center and other NYU resources, creating unity among all participants and ultimately support the educational and personal success of FOCUS Mentees.
